​MEET: Dr. Mahadeo Sukhai

 

As Canada's first bling biochemical researcher, a team lead and head of the Variant Interpretation Group, as well as a consultant in the accessible science education and  organizational development, he stays very busy and occupied. Not only does he a big role in all the above, but he also frequently volunteers!

​MEET: DR. DENNIS ATKINS

In 1979, Dennis was diagnosed with an eye disease known as Retinitis Pigmentosa, which has left his vision diminshed to only seeing shadows in certain light conditions. Despite his visual impairments, Dennis has become a long distance runner and has accomplished running over 85,000 miles and 70 full marathons. Dennis runs unassisted daily to  demonstrate the importance of living your life independently.

Molly Burke

 

"At just four-years-old, Molly Burke’s world became a little bit darker: she was diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa, a rare retinal disease causing loss of vision. Despite this, and the ensuing obstacles and hardships she faced, it wasn’t long before she began bringing light into the lives of others. Molly began public speaking at the age of five as an ambassador for The Foundation Fighting Blindness Canada. Since then, she has inspired thousands with her story.

​MEET:  Robert Pearson

"Robert is the Accessibility Officer for Accessible Media Inc. (AMI) and has been functioning, influencing, and engaging in the accessibility industry since 1999.

 

Robert joined AMI in 2011 as Director, Accessible Digital Media responsible for leading AMI’s efforts to improve the accessibility of digital media, develop AMI’s relationships with accessibility focused organizations and to liaise with the CRTC.  In his role as Accessibility Officer, Robert’s focus is on maintaining AMI as a leader on media accessibility by setting accessibility standards, shaping organization policies and encouraging the development of industry solutions that contribute to creating an inclusive environment."
